About Stephen

Stephen Cavitt is always chasing the next great story.

He has lived in a tipi, studied with shamans, touched wild bears, walked on fire, and climbed New Mexico’s highest mountain in skinny jeans.

The lead sniper for a SWAT team taught him to shoot. Tom Brown Jr. taught him to track. His mother taught him to sing.

Work

Stephen teaches English and creative writing at Florida Gulf Coast University. He coordinates the graduate teaching program in composition and teaches popular interdisciplinary courses in ecology and shamanism.

Stephen holds an MFA from Georgia College and has taught for Duke University, the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga State, and the University of Georgia.

Writing

Stephen publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and journalism.

His first novella, The Distance Between Stars, will be available soon in digital, print, and audio formats.

Aspiring journalist Niquish Fromer, a passenger on the last fleet to leave Earth, interviews her shipmates to save their stories for posterity…if anyone survives.
